Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, experienced, and self-motivated Mountain Estate Caretaker to oversee the maintenance, operation, and year-round readiness of a private ski mountain property. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, thrives in a mountain environment, and takes pride in caring for a private estate.

The property includes private ski terrain, extensive summer trail systems, heavy equipment, and multiple residences that require ongoing attention throughout the year. Responsibilities range from equipment maintenance and trail upkeep to snow operations, firewood management, seasonal property preparation, and ensuring the estate is always ready for the owners and their guests.

In addition to the mountain property, the caretaker will provide occasional support at a second private residence in the Denver metro area, including seasonal maintenance, supply runs, and transportation of equipment or materials between properties.

This is an independent contractor position with a flexible schedule that varies by season. While most work will occur on weekdays, occasional weekend availability is required to support property needs, special events, weather-related priorities, or time-sensitive projects. The ideal candidate is resourceful, mechanically inclined, physically active, and enjoys hands-on work in all types of weather. Someone who appreciates and participates in skiing/snowboarding, mountain biking, and life in the mountains will be especially well suited for this role.

Primary Responsibilities - Estate & Property Management

Perform routine inspections of all homes, outbuildings, infrastructure, and grounds to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.

Ensure residences are clean, stocked, operational, and ready for owner and guest arrivals.

Monitor propane, fuel, septic systems, fireplaces, heating systems, and other essential property infrastructure.

Coordinate maintenance issues with the Estate Administrator and outside contractors. Perform minor repairs within areas of expertise.

Retrieve mail and transport supplies, equipment, and materials between estate properties.

Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance

Manage and maintain (within area of expertise) estate equipment including Rangers, Bobcat, Snow Cat, trailers, chainsaws, and other machinery

Keep all equipment fueled, clean, serviced, and ready for owner use.

Perform basic chainsaw maintenance, including cleaning, sharpening, and chain replacement.

Coordinate transportation of equipment for servicing and repairs.

Monitor and maintain diesel and gasoline supplies for estate operations.

Grounds & Land Stewardship

Maintain trails, roads, and recreational areas throughout the property.

Remove fallen trees and storm debris.

Cut, split, stack, and distribute firewood for multiple residences.

Perform light forestry work and miscellaneous chainsaw projects.

Patrol the property to identify hazards, loose rock, erosion, or maintenance needs.

Assist with seasonal opening and closing of outdoor living spaces.

Seasonal Responsibilities

Summer Operations

Average 2 days per a week, some weeks may vary depending on owner’s task list.

Maintain mountain biking and hiking trails.

Shuttle owners and guests throughout the property using estate utility vehicles.

Assist with outdoor events, social gatherings, and photo shoots.

Prepare and store seasonal outdoor furniture.

Serve as the on-site contact for occasional rental guests.

Complete annual firewood production and storage for the upcoming winter.

Perform cat track cleanup and general property maintenance projects.

Perform additional property projects and special assignments as directed by the Administrative Manager.

Winter Operations

Average 2.5 - 3 days per a week, some weeks may vary depending on owner’s task list

Remove fallen trees and winter storm debris.

Perform snow removal around primary residences.

Collect snowfall and snowpack data measurements.

Prepare fireplaces by cleaning ashes and maintaining indoor firewood supplies.

Manage home thermostats before and after occupancy.

Assist with holiday decorating and seasonal setup.

Support ski operations by transporting owners, guests, equipment, and supplies using estate utility vehicles.

Assist with early-season trail packing and winter property preparation.

Coordinate ski and snowboard equipment maintenance as needed.
