Operations Manager - Custom Cabinet Company
Operations Manager
Description
Operations Manager
Full time | Base salary + performance commission
We’re looking for an Operations Manager to help run the day-to-day operations of our cabinet shop. Someone who takes ownership, works well with people, and cares about delivering a finished project we can all be proud of.
You’ll take sold projects through planning, production, finishing, and installation, making sure our people have what they need and our customers know what to expect.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll spend time in the shop, visit job sites, work directly with customers, and be involved in installations when needed. You’ll work closely with ownership to keep projects organized, support our people, and improve how the business runs.
What you’ll do
Get projects ready to build
- Review sold projects with ownership so you understand the scope, budget, customer expectations, and commitments we’ve made.
- Take accurate final field measurements and document site conditions, access, and installation requirements.
- Coordinate build-ready drawings and details, preparing them yourself when appropriate or working with others to get them completed.
- Check that drawings match the measurements and agreed scope, and review construction details with the people building the project.
- Get final customer approval on design, dimensions, materials, hardware, and finish.
- Make sure questions are answered and the project is ready before it hits the shop floor.
- Order materials, hardware, and supplies, and stay on top of lead times and deliveries.
- Make sure incoming materials are checked for accuracy, damage, and missing items.
- Build and maintain a realistic schedule for production, finishing, and installation.
- Coordinate people, equipment, and shop space so work moves efficiently.
- Adjust plans when something changes and communicate those changes early.
- Set clear priorities and expectations, and make sure everyone knows what needs to happen next.
- Work with project leads to track progress, solve problems, and keep work within the approved scope and labor budget.
- Check quality throughout the job so mistakes get caught before finishing or installation.
- Coach employees, address performance issues, and help people develop their skills.
- Keep the shop organized and make sure safety, tool maintenance, and equipment needs get attention.
- Help improve our processes without making them more complicated than they need to be.
- Be the customer’s main point of contact once a project moves into operations.
- Keep customers informed about progress, decisions, scheduling, and anything that affects their project.
- Handle installation scheduling, site access, readiness, and coordination with customers and other trades.
- Attend selected installations to help with coordination, quality checks, troubleshooting, and hands-on work.
- Document requested changes and work with ownership on pricing and approval before the team does additional work.
- Manage walkthroughs, punch lists, and warranty items, and follow through until the job is complete.
- Track actual labor and material use against the estimate.
- Flag likely overruns, delays, or quality problems while we still have time to address them.
- Make sure completed work and project records are ready for billing.
- Review finished jobs with ownership to understand what went well, what didn’t, and what we should change.
- Help us build an operation that can grow while maintaining quality and taking care of our people.
You don’t need to have done every part of this exact job before. You do need to be organized, dependable, and willing to learn.
We’re looking for someone who can lead without talking down to people, hold a standard without creating unnecessary friction, and stay steady when a job doesn’t go as planned. Someone who asks questions, owns mistakes, and follows through.
You should be comfortable reading drawings, working with measurements, managing several moving projects, and using basic software to keep information and schedules organized.
Cabinet experience is preferred, but not required. A background in construction, woodworking, manufacturing, project management, or leading crews could be a good fit. What matters is that you bring practical experience, good judgment, and the ability to learn our work.
