PAINT FOREMAN — SCENIC & FABRICATION SHOP

THE ROLE

As Paint Foreman, you'll own the paint and finishing department from floor to ceiling — managing the shop's spray booth, leading a team of painters, and ensuring every piece that leaves our shop meets the highest standard of finish quality. You'll work closely with project managers, fabricators, and art directors to hit deadlines on high-profile, fast-moving projects.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be painting, mixing, and finishing alongside your team while also managing workflow, materials, and quality control.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead day-to-day operations of the scenic paint and finishing department
Supervise, schedule, and mentor paint shop staff
Execute and oversee all paint and finish applications — spray, brush, roll, faux, scenic, specialty
Mix and match colors to spec; maintain consistency across large runs and complex finishes
Manage paint inventory, materials ordering, and vendor relationships
Coordinate with project managers and fabrication leads on scheduling and deadlines
Maintain spray booth equipment, compressors, and finishing tools
Enforce safety protocols including PPE, VOC compliance, and hazmat procedures
Read and interpret renderings, specs, and finish schedules
Troubleshoot finish issues and develop solutions under pressure

REQUIREMENTS

5+ years experience in scenic painting, production finishing, or industrial paint applications
Proven experience leading a paint team in a shop or production environment
Expert knowledge of spray application techniques — HVLP, airless, electrostatic
Proficiency with automotive, lacquer, urethane, latex, and specialty scenic finishes
Familiarity with scenic painting techniques (texture, faux, distressing, aging) a strong plus
Experience with theatrical, experiential, or entertainment industry builds a strong plus
Knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA safety standards and VOC regulations
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines
Strong communication skills and team leadership ability
