Part-Time Energy Auditor

Description

About Bay Efficiency

Bay Efficiency is a Los Angeles-based energy consulting firm serving commercial and residential clients across Southern California. We conduct on-site energy audits that help building owners reduce costs and improve efficiency.
We are hiring up to two part-time energy auditors to join our team. Paid training is provided. No prior energy auditing experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to commercial and residential buildings (up to four buildings per day)
  • Identify and inventory on-site equipment including lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, and water systems
  • Collect and catalog data on HVAC systems such as furnaces, VAV boxes, boilers, chillers, and package units
  • Identify lighting by fixture type and lamp shape (LED, CFL, incandescent, fluorescent, halogen)
  • Photograph equipment and relevant building details
  • Catalog all collected data in the company application
  • Interact professionally with building owners and property managers during site visits
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with the Bay Efficiency team
What We're Looking For
  • Professional presentation and demeanor. You are the face of Bay Efficiency at every client site.
  • Comfort working in commercial buildings and speaking with building owners and property managers.
  • Strong attention to detail. Accurate equipment counts and thorough documentation are the core deliverable.
  • Reliability and consistency. Show up on time, follow established procedures, submit data correctly.
  • Interest in ongoing part-time work, not a short-term or transitional role.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required.
  • Smartphone with a reliable camera required.
Training
All technical skills are taught on the job. Paid, on-site training is provided by a senior auditor covering:
  • Equipment identification (lighting, HVAC, water systems)
  • Company application and data entry workflow
  • Audit procedures and reporting format
  • Building systems fundamentals
Preferred Qualifications
These are a plus but not required:
• Prior experience in any field-facing or building-adjacent role (real estate, property management, inspections, construction, facilities, HVAC, or similar)
Compensation and Classification
Rate is determined by prior field or building-adjacent experience (e.g., construction, facilities, HVAC, inspections, property management) and years of experience in relevant fields.
  • W-2 employee
  • Workers' compensation coverage provided
  • Approximately 15–20 hrs/week
How to Apply
Email your resume to bea@bayefficiency.com.
What to Expect After Applying
  • Phone screen: approximately 15-minute live conversation with our recruiting lead
  • On-site group interview: live site walkthrough and lighting count with a senior auditor
  • Final Interview
  • Offer extended for paid training to begin
Email Screening Questions
1. This is a long-term part-time role (15–20 hrs/week, Mon–Fri, flexible scheduling during business hours) and is not expected to transition into full-time. Please describe your current commitments (work, school, family, or other responsibilities) and explain why part-time is the right fit for you right now. How would you structure your week to complete audits consistently?
2. Auditors represent Bay Efficiency on-site with building owners, property managers, and tenants. Describe your experience working in or visiting commercial buildings, the environments, your role, and your level of responsibility. Then walk us through a specific time you entered a building and introduced yourself to someone you didn't know.

We're seeking someone interested in a long-term role, not just a short-term engagement. For the right person, we are willing to be flexible on compensation and offer the highest rate we can reasonably support.
