Part-Time Free-Motion Appliqué / Sewing Specialist — Remote

Part-Time | Remote | Independent Sewing Work | Trial Position

I’m looking for an experienced sewist/seamstress with strong free-motion sewing or appliqué skills to assist with a small creative production operation preparing for the upcoming holiday season.
This is a fully remote position, with the exception of a required in-person inventory exchange approximately twice per month in the RiNo Arts District in Denver.

The Work

Every two weeks, you will receive a new batch of prepared pieces. The designs will already be positioned and secured to the base garments/pieces using adhesive basting.
Your primary responsibility will be to use free-motion sewing to carefully stitch around the edges of the appliqué designs, securing them permanently to the piece.
The work requires:

• consistent free-motion stitching
• Ability to follow the existing design and stitch closely around appliqué edges
• Comfort sewing on garments and around areas such as sleeves and pant legs
• Attention to detail and consistency across multiple pieces
• Ability to work independently and complete pieces within agreed-upon timeframes

Equipment Required
You must have your own sewing machine capable of free-motion sewing.
There is no specific brand or model requirement. However, your machine must have an appropriate free arm/arm configuration that allows you to sew inside sleeves and pant legs.

Experience with any of the following is helpful:

• Free-motion sewing
• Free-motion quilting
• Appliqué
• Garment sewing
• Decorative machine stitching
• Working with adhesive-basted appliqué

Please also briefly describe any relevant experience you have.

Materials

I will supply the thread, needles, and prepared inventory/pieces.
You will provide your own sewing machine and workspace.

Compensation

This position is paid on a piece-rate basis, not an hourly wage. Compensation is based on a percentage of the final selling price of each completed piece.

Because compensation is based on completed pieces, your effective hourly earnings can vary( from ~$50-$100/hr) depending on sewing speed, efficiency, piece complexity, and the amount of work completed.

Paychecks are issued once per month for completed and approved work.

The initial tester pieces are part of the qualification process and are used to evaluate sewing technique, stitch quality, consistency, and fit for the work. The compensation structure for ongoing production will be explained before you begin regular production work.

Schedule & Pickup/Drop-off

This is a flexible, remote position.
New inventory will be provided approximately every two weeks. You must be able to meet twice per month in the RiNo Arts District for pickup and drop-off of inventory.

Trial Period

This position will begin with a trial period.
Before moving forward, selected applicants will be given a few tester pieces to sew. This is simply to make sure your technique, stitch quality, and comfort level are a good fit for the work.
A portfolio is not required, although examples of relevant work are welcome.
This position is initially intended to help prepare for the upcoming holiday season and increased production. If the arrangement is working well and the quality and consistency of your work meet expectations, there is an opportunity to continue the position beyond the initial holiday period.
