Production Sewing Operator

We are looking for an experienced Production Sewing Operator to join our small manufacturing team in San Marcos.

This is not a hobby sewing, alterations, or custom garment position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in a production environment where the goal is to produce consistent, high-quality work efficiently throughout the day.

The sewing itself is not extremely complicated, but it requires strong machine control, consistency, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a steady production pace.

The ideal candidate has experience working with industrial sewing machines in a production, manufacturing, apparel, upholstery, accessories, costume, soft-goods, or similar commercial sewing environment.

You should be comfortable sewing repetitive operations efficiently, maintaining consistent stitch quality and placement from piece to piece, working from a finished sample or established process, threading industrial machines, changing bobbins and needles, making basic adjustments, recognizing common sewing problems, and working independently once trained.

This job involves repeating the same sewing operations for extended periods of time. We are looking for someone who understands that production sewing is about both quality AND speed.

Home sewing experience alone is generally not enough for this position. We are specifically looking for someone who has sewn professionally or in a production environment.

We will train you on our specific products and construction methods. You do not need to know how to make our products before starting, but you should already have strong industrial sewing fundamentals.

1. How many years of sewing experience do you have, and how much of that experience was in a production, manufacturing, factory, or commercial sewing environment?

2. Tell us about your most recent production sewing job. What products were you making, and what sewing operations were you responsible for?

3. What industrial sewing machines have you personally operated? Please include the manufacturer, machine type, and model number if you know it. Examples could include Juki, Brother, Consew, Singer, industrial straight-stitch, overlock/serger, walking-foot machines, or similar equipment.

4. Approximately how much product were you expected to complete during a normal shift or production run? We understand this varies depending on the product. We are mainly interested in understanding the type of production environment you worked in.

5. What types of fabrics or materials have you worked with professionally?

6. If available, please include photos of products you have personally sewn in a professional or production environment. Please briefly explain which portions of the products you were responsible for sewing.

7. Are you comfortable completing a short paid sewing skills test as part of the interview process?

Please do not simply respond that you "know how to sew." We are specifically looking for applicants with production-level sewing experience and would like to understand the type of work you have done.

Location: San Marcos, CA

Hours: Part-time: 16-30 hours per week.

Pay: $20-25 per hour based on experience
