Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Administration, the Safety Manager is responsible for the execution and oversight of all People First safety-related needs for each location and program, ranging from documentation to staff training to implementation and maintenance of new/updated procedures and systems.

Position Overview

  • Regularly review and update each location’s Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP) and Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP).
  • Tailor documents, forms, and checklists to each department’s needs.
  • Ensure updated binders are easily accessible.
  • Train staff annually on department IIPPs and WVPPs, ensuring clear understanding and execution.
  • Oversee department-specific daily and weekly safety duties (e.g., tailored Hazards Assessments).
  • Manage location-specific safety systems, from chemical storage and SDS posting to emergency response plans.
  • Craft a continuity of operations plan in coordination with Program Managers and Directors
  • Establish quarterly Safety Committee meetings with rotating departmental representatives and staff members.
  • Think creatively about safety and injury/illness prevention solutions, and work with applicable team members to understand concern and identify realistic and sustainable systems/improvements
  • Maintain OSHA Logs and file annual reports with the Director of Administration.
  • Attend approved safety webinars and trainings
  • Work with Program Managers and Director of Administration regularly to ensure all locations have PPE and other necessary nonexpired safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers and AEDs)
  • Post and maintain up-to-date logs, safety posters, and info sheets.
  • Attend required meetings and present safety information or training when relevant.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for internal and external reporting.
  • Perform other relevant duties as directed.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, or Master’s in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent academic degree, or Certification in Occupational Health and Safety Management.
  • Minimum two years work experience in the safety management field
