Description
The Scenic Carpenters of The San Francisco Historium Spotlight (SFH) will fabricate company-owned
theater sets and large environmental set pieces that form the structural backbone of our interpretation of
old San Francisco. Key projects include, but are not limited to: stages, bars, game booths, large set
dressing pieces, company environmental areas, and other company owned booths and spaces.
The Scenic Carpentry Department requires skilled workers who work directly with and report to the Production
Managers and Scenic Leads.
Position Responsibilities:
Working harmoniously as part of the scene shop team and executing the Shop Lead and the
Production Manager’s vision.
Fabrication of a variety of theatrical set elements including but not limited to: wall flats, stage
platforms, furniture, shelving, crates, trunks, and other required set pieces.
Following the instructions and plans of the Scene Shop Lead.
Work in tandem with the other RBP departments including: Scenic Painting, Set Dressing (or
“Deco”), Rigging, Lighting, and Production teams as needed.
In addition to constructing the sets for SFH, the job requirement includes preparing all completed
sets for shipping to the venue.
Assisting the Production Department with relevant clean up tasks following construction.
Qualifications & Skills:
Devotion to building and maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
Ability to interpret and apply the Shop Lead’s wishes, as well as exercise sound judgment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly relay information and follow instruction.
Experience in theatrical set construction, scenic and production design work a plus.
Comfortable working independently as well as on a team.
Proficient in use of common construction and crafting tools such as screw guns, staple guns,
circular saws, etc. Welding knowledge is a plus.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Must be comfortable with standing for long periods of time and working in
non-climate-controlled spaces.
Must be comfortable with heights and willing to use ladders up to 14’
Scissor lift and/or boom lift certification is a plus.
Applications & Compensation
Red Barn Productions produces The San Francisco Historium and other events. Compensation starts at
$23.00 an hour, based on qualifications. This position is seasonal and runs from July 1 thru August 14, 40
