ABM Industries is seeking a Senior Test Technician to join our Electrical Power Services team in Tempe, Arizona. This senior-level position is responsible for performing advanced inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, commissioning, and project leadership activities on electrical power distribution equipment across commercial, industrial, utility, semiconductor, data center, government, military, and mission-critical facilities.
The Senior Technician is expected to work independently, lead testing crews, manage field execution activities, and serve as a technical resource for customers and junior technicians. Candidates should possess NETA Level III certification or equivalent experience and demonstrate strong expertise in electrical power systems, protective relaying, substation testing, and commissioning practices. This role provides a pathway toward Lead Technician, Commissioning Manager, Project Manager, and other technical leadership positions. Position Summary Pay: $60-$75.00 hourly. The pay listed is the hourly rate range for this position. A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data. Essential Functions
- Perform acceptance, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning testing on electrical power distribution equipment.
- Lead field crews and coordinate testing activities on small- to large-scale electrical projects.
- Conduct testing, maintenance, and commissioning of:
- Low- and medium-voltage switchgear
- Power and distribution transformers
- Circuit breakers
- Protective relays
- Medium-voltage cable systems
- Low-voltage cable systems
- Automatic transfer switches
- Grounding systems
- Battery systems
- Substation equipment and controls
- Perform advanced substation testing and troubleshooting activities.
- Conduct protective relay testing, verification, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate and review transformer oil sampling and condition assessment data.
- Analyze test results, identify abnormal conditions, and develop corrective action recommendations.
- Prepare, review, and approve PowerDB reports and testing documentation.
- Read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, relay settings, and technical specifications.
- Support project planning, outage coordination, and customer communication activities.
- Ensure compliance with NETA, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA 70E requirements.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), arc-flash assessments, and pre-job safety meetings.
- Mentor Test Technician I and II personnel and support technician development initiatives.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to customers, project managers, and company leadership.
Travel Requirements
- Daily travel within approximately a 50-mile radius of the Tempe, Arizona office.
- Estimated travel requirement of 10–15%, depending on project assignments.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- NETA Level III Certification or equivalent power systems testing experience.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, field service, power systems maintenance, or utility operations.
- Demonstrated experience testing and troubleshooting:
- Protective relays
- Circuit breakers
- Power transformers
- Medium-voltage cable systems
- Low-voltage cable systems
- Switchgear
- Substation equipment
- Experience leading crews, coordinating field activities, and managing project execution.
- Strong working knowledge of PowerDB reporting and documentation software.
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical theory, power distribution systems, and commissioning procedures.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, protection drawings, and one-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and electronic reporting systems.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
