Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

D1 Trailer Sales and Rental is looking for an experienced, organized, and accountable Service & Parts Manager to take ownership of our growing Service and Parts Department.

We are a full-service trailer dealership handling trailer sales, service, parts, rentals, truck beds, used-trailer reconditioning, welding/fabrication, and mobile service.

We are looking for someone who understands that running a successful service department requires more than knowing how to turn a wrench. You must be able to manage people, manage repair orders, communicate with customers, control parts inventory, schedule work, track technician productivity, and make sure every billable hour and part is properly captured.

What You Will Be Responsible For

The Service & Parts Manager will oversee the service process from the moment a trailer arrives until the completed repair is paid for and released to the customer.

Responsibilities include:

Inspecting and evaluating incoming service work

Creating accurate and complete repair orders
Preparing detailed customer estimates
Obtaining customer authorization before work begins
Scheduling and prioritizing shop work
Assigning jobs to technicians
Tracking technician productivity and billable hours
Making sure technicians properly clock in and out of every RO
Monitoring every open repair order throughout the day
Keeping customers informed of progress and completion dates
Identifying all necessary parts before work begins whenever reasonably possible
Ordering parts and tracking expected arrival dates
Maintaining appropriate inventory of commonly used service parts
Properly charging all parts used on an RO
Managing welding, fabrication, electrical, brake, bearing, suspension and general trailer repairs
Managing used-trailer reconditioning
Performing and documenting final quality-control inspections
Reviewing completed ROs before invoicing
Making sure additional work is authorized before it is performed
Maintaining an organized, productive and professional Service Department
You Must Know Your Jobs

We operate with a NO SURPRISES philosophy.

At any point, the Service & Parts Manager should be able to tell management:

What is wrong with the trailer?

What has been authorized?
What has been completed?
What still needs to be completed?
What parts are needed?
Have the parts been ordered?
When will they arrive?
Who is working on the trailer?
How many labor hours are in the job?
When will the trailer be finished?
When is the customer picking it up?
What is the expected final invoice?

If a customer calls asking about their trailer, we should already know the answer.

Parts Management Is a Major Part of This Position

We expect our Service & Parts Manager to understand the common parts required to repair trailers and maintain appropriate inventory.

A professional service department should not spend its day driving around town chasing common parts that should have been identified and ordered ahead of time.

You will be responsible for:

Maintaining appropriate stocking levels

Ordering replenishment inventory
Receiving and organizing parts
Tracking special-order parts
Knowing vendor sources
Maintaining accurate parts costs
Making sure parts are properly billed
Keeping the Parts Department clean and organized
Productivity Matters

Our shop is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.

We track technician time and billable hours.

The Service Manager is expected to keep technicians productive and make sure available work moves through the shop efficiently.

We don't want trailers sitting unnecessarily.

We don't want technicians waiting because somebody forgot to order parts.

And we don't want three hours billed when eight hours of legitimate work were performed.

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate has experience in some combination of:

Trailer repair

Automotive service
RV service
Equipment repair
Fleet maintenance
Service writing
Parts management
Shop management
Welding/fabrication
Electrical diagnostics
Brake and bearing service

Previous management or service-writing experience is strongly preferred.

Trailer-specific experience is a major plus, but someone with strong automotive, RV, equipment, or fleet service-management experience may also be a great fit.
