Description
Hammer & Hand is seeking a full-time Shop Draftsperson / Millwork Detailer in Portland, OR to support our custom fabrication shop and high-performance residential construction teams in Portland and Seattle. This role is in-person at our Portland woodshop; no remote work.
This position focuses on cabinet and millwork shop drawings, material procurement, and coordination with architects, project managers, and fabrication staff to execute high-quality custom work.

Responsibilities
- Produce detailed shop drawings for custom cabinetry, built-ins, architectural millwork, doors, windows, and occasional furniture pieces.
- Coordinate drawing revisions and approvals with architects, designers, clients, and internal teams.
- Assist with material takeoffs, hardware specifications, and procurement coordination.
- Collaborate with shop foremen and fabricators to ensure drawings are practical and buildable.
- Maintain organized drawing sets, revision logs, cut lists, and project documentation.
- Occasional site visits for field verification and coordination.
- Some hands-on shop work may be involved depending on workload and skillset.
- 2–5+ years of cabinet shop experience, drafting, millwork detailing, and cabinet shop drawing.
- Proficiency with CAD drafting software such as AutoCAD, Fusion 360, SketchUp, Rhino, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of cabinetry, millwork, construction detailing, and fabrication methods.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with architects, clients, and fabrication teams.
- Experience in high-end residential construction, custom fabrication, furniture making, or architectural woodworking.
- Understanding of wood movement, joinery, hardware systems, and finish materials.
- Experience with estimating, takeoffs, or procurement.
- Hands-on woodworking or cabinet shop experience.
- Interest in design-build construction and collaborative problem solving.
