Shop Helper – Assembly, Maintenance & Painting
Description
Shop Helper — Custom Sculpture Fabrication (New Haven)
$20/hr to start, more depending on experience · Full-time · Monday–Friday, 8am–4:30pm · On-site
We design and build custom sculptural climbing structures, the kind installed in children's museums, zoos, aquariums, and cruise ships worldwide. Every project is one of a kind. Nothing we build is off a shelf.
We're hiring one person to help keep the shop running and to learn the trade from the crew that does this work.
What you'd actually do
Day to day, this ranges from grunt work to skilled work: moving and staging material, prepping and painting parts, cleaning and organizing the shop, basic grounds and building upkeep, and assisting fabricators on the floor. As you show what you can handle, you take on more, including learning to build and install our climbers. How fast that happens is up to you.
Who we're looking for
Reliable, on time, and comfortable with physical work. Experience with carpentry, painting, or general shop work is a plus, but we'll train someone motivated who doesn't have it. Valid driver's license. Able to lift 50 lbs. Willing to run a forklift — we'll certify you.
Nice to have
Patience for careful, repetitive detail work and good hands. Comfortable working at height or on a lift. Interest in occasional travel for out-of-state installs.
Why it's worth your time
Small crew, no two projects alike, and the things you help build end up somewhere real with kids climbing all over them.
To apply
Write a short note about what you've built or worked on — a formal resume is optional. Please, no phone calls or walk-ins.
