Shop Manager / Lead Carpenter
Manufacturing - Part Time Position
Description
Sense & Sound is looking for an experienced Shop Manager / Lead Carpenter to oversee manufacturing operations at our Los Angeles workshop and potentially lead on-site installations.
Experience:
Candidates should have:
Minimum 5 years of professional carpentry experience
Experience working as a lead carpenter, foreman, or shop manager
Experience managing and directing small crews
Strong understanding of shop safety, workflow, organization, and quality control
Ability to work independently and take responsibility for completing projects efficiently and accurately
Tools & Processes:
You should be experienced working with:
Pneumatic nail and staple guns
Table saws
Chop / miter saws
Routers
Drills and standard woodworking tools
Spray and contact adhesives
Wood glue and other bonding methods
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for manufacturing Sense & Sound's proprietary acoustic panels, studio products, mounting systems, and related accessories.
Responsibilities may include:
Managing day-to-day workshop operations
Organizing manufacturing workflow and priorities
Leading and training a crew of approximately 1–6 employees
Assigning and supervising shop tasks
Maintaining consistent build quality
Tracking materials and identifying supply needs
Maintaining an organized and safe workshop
Troubleshooting manufacturing issues
Improving manufacturing efficiency and processes
Preparing products and hardware for installation
Potentially leading or participating in installations at client locations

Our manufacturing process regularly involves:
Fiberglass
Rockwool / mineral wool
Spray adhesives
Wood glue
Plywood
Soundboard
Pegboard
Solid wood components
Fabrics and upholstery materials
Various mounting hardware and accessories
Experience working with acoustic products is not required. We can train the right candidate on our specific products and manufacturing methods.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate is not simply a skilled carpenter. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of a shop and its output.
You should be able to receive a production objective, organize the crew and workflow, identify problems before they become delays, and complete the work without requiring constant supervision.
Reliability, organization, attention to detail, efficiency, and accountability are extremely important in this role.
Compensation:
Starting compensation: $30/hour, W-2

There is meaningful room for compensation growth as the candidate takes on greater responsibility and becomes capable of independently managing Sense & Sound's manufacturing and installation operations.
