Build a Skilled-Trade Career with TubKote
TubKote is hiring a dependable, detail-oriented technician to restore bathtubs, tile surrounds, sinks, and other surfaces for residential and commercial customers throughout West Michigan.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in painting, automotive finishing, cabinet finishing, maintenance, construction, coatings, or another hands-on trade. Previous bathtub-refinishing experience is not required. We provide structured, paid training.
This role is best suited for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in producing a professional finished product, and wants to develop a specialized trade with opportunities for increased earnings and leadership responsibility.
What You Will Do
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, masking, repairing chips and damage, and protecting the surrounding work area.
- Apply professional coating systems using spray equipment and established TubKote procedures.
- Refinish bathtubs, tile surrounds, sinks, and other approved surfaces to company quality standards.
- Complete final inspections and correct quality concerns before leaving the job site.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work area in occupied homes, apartments, hotels, and commercial properties.
- Communicate professionally with customers, property managers, and other team members.
- Maintain company tools, spray equipment, PPE, supplies, and assigned vehicle.
- Document completed work and promptly report material, equipment, safety, or quality issues.
Technicians travel to scheduled customer properties in the Grand Rapids and West Michigan area. A typical assignment includes job-site setup, ventilation and PPE checks, surface preparation, repairs, masking, coating application, final inspection, cleanup, and completion documentation. After training, technicians are expected to manage assigned jobs independently while maintaining TubKote standards for safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in painting, spray finishing, auto body, cabinet finishing, industrial coatings, maintenance, construction, or a similar trade is preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Dependable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to follow a daily schedule.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently after training.
- Willingness to learn, accept coaching, and follow standard work and safety procedures.
- Professional communication and respect for customer property.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and work in bathrooms and other confined work areas for extended periods.
- Ability to safely wear a respirator and all required personal protective equipment.
- Comfort working with coating products, cleaning materials, spray equipment, and ventilation systems.
- Ability to travel locally to customer job sites; occasional schedule adjustments may be required based on customer needs.
Competitive base pay plus performance incentives
Expected annual earnings: approximately $50,000-$65,000 for developing technicians, with experienced, high-performing technicians able to earn $65,000-$75,000+. Starting pay is based on relevant experience and demonstrated skill.
- Paid, structured training in a specialized and in-demand trade.
- Performance incentives based on quality, productivity, reliability, and customer service.
- $250 per month healthcare stipend after 90 days.
- Five paid days off after 90 days, with additional time based on tenure and company policy.
- Company vehicle, fuel, tools, equipment, and required PPE provided for company work.
- Paid travel time between assigned job sites.
- Opportunities for wage increases as training milestones and skill levels are completed.
New technicians complete structured, hands-on training covering surface preparation, repairs, masking, spray application, coating systems, equipment maintenance, ventilation, PPE, customer communication, job documentation, and final inspection. Technicians work alongside an experienced trainer before being assigned independent jobs. Progress is measured through demonstrated skills, safety, quality, productivity, and reliability.
