JOB TITLE: Structural Steel Field Welder/Erector – Full Time

LOCATION: Projects throughout the Greater Austin Area & Central Texas

JOB DESCRIPTION:

5 Star Fabrications Inc. is looking for an experienced Structural Steel/Miscellaneous Field Welder/Erector to join our team. This is a full-time position working on commercial structural steel projects throughout the Greater Austin area and Central Texas. Duties include steel erection, field welding, rigging, installing structural steel/miscellaneous members, reading plans, and working SAFELY with a crew to complete projects on schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform structural steel/miscellaneous welding in the field
• Weld beams, columns, braces, stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous metals
• Read blueprints and structural steel plans
• Work safely at heights using aerial lifts and other equipment
• Assist with steel erection as needed
• Maintain a clean and safe work area
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Stick welding (7018/6010)
• MIG welding
• Blueprint reading
• Rigging
• Structural steel erection
• Torch cutting
• Layout and fit-up
• Shows up consistently and on time
• Doesn’t quit when a job gets hard or conditions are tough
• Take pride in doing things the right way
• Learn from mistakes instead of making excuses
• Stick with a project until it’s finished
• Must be able to adhere to and perform all safety procedures during every shift

REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Texas driver's license preferred
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must be able to work full-time
• Safety must be #1 priority
• Must have experience with structural steel/miscellaneous welding & erection
• Must be comfortable & able to work safely at heights
• Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic math
• Experience fitting, tacking, welding, grinding, finishing, and preparing custom metalwork for installation
• Experience using standard metal fabrication tools and equipment
• Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English with supervisors, customers, contractors, and other trades and understand plans, measurements, jobsite instructions, and safety requirements
• Reliable attendance and communication

PAY: $25-$29 PER HOUR DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE AND SKILL LEVEL

Someone who only has production welding experience, needs to be taught basic fabrication skills, regularly misses work, disappears without communication, cannot accurately read a tape measure, or needs constant supervision to complete basic fabrication work.
