Field Service Technician – Coffee Equipment

Compensation: $25.00–$38.00 per hour, based on experience

The Opportunity
Commercial espresso machines combine electricity, plumbing, pressure, heat, electronics, and mechanical systems. We are looking for mechanically curious people who want to learn the skilled trade of installing, maintaining, and repairing this equipment.
Previous coffee-equipment experience is not required. Experience or training in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical work, plumbing, appliance repair, automotive repair, facilities maintenance, or another mechanical trade is highly valued.
This is a hands-on, field-based role for someone who enjoys fixing things, solving problems, working with customers, and learning new technical skills.

Better Service is the equipment service division of Better Brands. We support cafés, restaurants, hotels, and hospitality businesses throughout New York City and across the country.
Our technicians install, maintain, and repair commercial espresso machines, coffee grinders, brewers, water-filtration systems, and related beverage equipment.

What You’ll Do
You will work alongside experienced technicians while learning to:
- Install and set up commercial espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance and equipment inspections
- Diagnose basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and operational problems
- Assist with scheduled service calls and emergency repairs
- Use multimeters, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic software
- Read wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and service instructions
- Identify required parts and complete repairs accurately
- Document service activity, parts used, and work completed
- Communicate professionally with café owners, managers, and employees
- Maintain an organized service vehicle, tool inventory, and parts stock
The strongest candidates will be:
- Mechanically inclined and naturally curious
- Reliable, punctual, and organized
- Comfortable working independently in the field
- Able to troubleshoot problems logically
- Professional and confident when working with customers
- Comfortable using mobile apps, email, and basic service software
- Interested in developing a long-term technical career
- Willing to learn from experienced technicians and manufacturer training
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
- Ability to bend, kneel, and work under or behind counters
- Ability to travel throughout an assigned New York City service territory
- Ability to participate in an occasional on-call rotation, approximately one weekend per month
What Success Looks Like
Within approximately six months, a successful technician should be able to:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance independently
- Diagnose and repair basic equipment problems
- Complete accurate service documentation
- Manage assigned calls and daily workflow
- Communicate clearly with customers and internal support teams
- Continue progressing toward a Field Service Technician position
- $25.00–$38.00 per hour, based on experience
