Fleet & Commercial Truck Mechanic
Full-Time Carson, CA
Repairs, diagnoses, and maintains the company's fleet (trucks, forklifts, scissor lifts) and shop equipment to keep it safe, DOT-compliant, and running. Covers both in-shop work and on-road breakdowns, and includes monitoring fleet health through Geotab.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks (engines, brakes, transmissions, suspension, electrical systems) using OBD-II and manufacturer scan tools.
- Perform routine PM: oil, filters, fluids, brakes, tires; plus welding/fabrication and truck-mounted equipment (lift gates, racks, utility bodies).
- Maintain forklifts, scissor lifts, and all shop equipment/machinery; keep a PM schedule for shop equipment.
- Monitor Geotab for fault codes, maintenance alerts, and vehicle health; schedule service proactively from that data.
- Run required DOT/FMCSA and safety inspections; keep accurate inspection, repair, and maintenance records.
- Provide daily repair schedule by 10 AM; coordinate with foremen/management; order parts from approved vendors only.
- Keep up to date records of any vehicles out of use and in use, assist in purchasing and selling of vehicles
- Handle road-call breakdowns and after-hours calls; on call 24/7 as scheduled.
- 3–5 years of medium/heavy-duty truck repair experience; valid CA driver's license.
- Diagnostic tool proficiency, welding/fabrication skills, own hand tools.
- Preferred: ASE certs, Class A/B CDL, Geotab or fleet-telematics experience, forklift/scissor-lift experience, flatbed tow truck experience.
- Basic computer skills and Organization
- Lift up to 75 lbs regularly (100 lbs occasionally); work in confined spaces and outdoors.
- Monday–Friday, shop-based with travel to job sites; 24/7 on-call rotation for emergencies. Overtime occasionally when needed and approved for emergencies.
