Description
We are looking for part time help to work in our studio and help keep the pottery flowing! Turnagain ceramics offers pottery classes and studio memberships to the anchorage area. We need a Studio Tech to help keep our kilns running, glaze mixed, and clay made for our classes and members. The studio tech can expect to load and unload pottery kilns, process class work by trimming and glazing pieces, monitor and mix community glazes and reclaim clay. They can also expect to assist with inventory management tasks.
Turnagain Ceramics is a great community art space to work in. Our team is comprised of folks both with and without arts backgrounds. We enjoy folding folks into our team who are motivated to learn more about ceramics, developing new processes, and can work independently. Job Summary:
The Studio Technician plays a critical role in Turnagain Ceramics operations. They help keep pottery moving through the kilns, ensure students and members have access to high quality materials, answer questions about our firing schedule, materials, and more.
The Studio Technician is responsible for loading and unloading kilns, kiln maintenance, mixing glazes, the clay reclaim process, processing Clay in a Day and Paint a Pot pottery pieces, and other technical projects and tasks as required. Additionally, the Studio Technicians is responsible for maintaining and cleaning the kiln room and other work areas. Finally, the Studio Technician assists customers with purchases and questions about firings, materials, studio events, offerings, and classes when necessary.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Loading and unloading kilns
Processing ceramic materials such as glaze and reclaim
Cleaning and organizing work areas
Processing class projects including trimming and glazing
Inventory management
In person customer service

Education and Experience:
At least one year of related experience is preferred, but not required. If you’re interested in this job, you’re a hard worker and willing to learn, we’ll train you!
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times. Ability to crouch, bend, and use tools.
