Description
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair water distribution and production equipment and infrastructure.
- Install and repair water mains, service lines, hydrants, valves, meters, and related components.
- Inspect wells, reservoirs, pumps, motors, and water treatment equipment.
- Collect water quality samples, perform basic testing, and assist with chemical feed adjustments.
- Perform preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on pumps, motors, valves, and related systems.
- Assist with monitoring water systems using SCADA and related instrumentation.
- Operate construction equipment, power tools, and maintenance vehicles.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, water quality testing, and daily activities.
- Follow established safety procedures, including traffic control and safe equipment operation.
- Participate in mandatory standby rotations and respond to emergency calls, including outside normal working hours.
Operator I – Entry Level
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in water systems, construction, maintenance, or related mechanical/electrical equipment.
- Water distribution or production experience preferred.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational or technical training in water utility operations, mechanical maintenance, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible experience in water distribution or production operations, maintenance, installation, and repair.
- California Water Distribution Grade D3 certification required.
- California Water Treatment Grade T2 certification required.
- California Class A driver's license required.
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot equipment, and exercise sound judgment in field operations.
- Ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork, including lifting, climbing, bending, and operating equipment.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and around mechanical equipment and chemicals.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, and the public.
