About the Opportunity
Are you a skilled fabricator looking to bring custom metal creations to life? A established, growing custom metal fabrication shop in the Portland metro area is seeking a Welder & Metal Fabricator to join their dynamic team.
From custom retail displays and event structures to unique prototypes and plate processing, this client offers a collaborative shop environment where your craftsmanship and input are truly valued. Position Details
Pay Rate: Starting at $28/hour (higher rates available for well-qualified candidates up to $40/hr!)
Shift/Schedule: Monday-Friday 6am-2:30pm
Location: Portland Metro Area - West Side
Key Responsibilities
Receive components from staging and process according to drawings, paperwork, and established quality standards.
Track work accurately by recording project start times, PO numbers, and work order details.
Verify sub-components are complete, undamaged, and ready for fabrication.
Safely fit, assemble, and weld custom metal projects using standard fabrication methods and filler materials.
Perform layout, shearing, and bending for small parts such as end caps, shelves, channels, and brackets.
Assist across departments as needed, including press brake operations, Quality Control (QC), and shipping.
Hand off completed assemblies to the QC team for final inspection and shipping.
Maintain clear communication with the shop foreman regarding project status and timeline.
Qualifications & Requirements
Blueprint Reading & Math: Strong understanding of shop construction drawings with minimal supervision; proficient in using a standard tape measure and performing fractional math.
Welding & Equipment: Solid knowledge of basic set-up and operation of welding machines, filler materials, and shop tools.
Fabrication & Assembly: Ability to fit, assemble, weld, and finish projects from drawings efficiently.
Quality Standards (Class 2 Level Capabilities):
Ability to fit, weld, and finish flat seam welds with minimal defects in a timely manner.
Experienced in assembling custom cabinets, canopy hoods, and irregular custom assemblies to shipping standards.
Clear understanding of standard finish levels specified on drawings.
Materials Knowledge: Familiarity with various types of metals, finishes, and fabrication techniques especially welding light gauge and stainless steel finishing.
Teamwork: Strong communication skills and willingness to contribute input during design/bidding phases.
